iOS 15 compatibility devices: Now that the release date of this cool new operating system has already come in the spotlight, the next question bothering users is the compatibility.
That is, what all devices will be compatible with the new iOS 15. Let’s start with some good news, those using iPhone 7 or above are going to get lucky in 2021, for the new iOS 15 will be available for them to use. However iPhone 7 will be the cut-off point, in other words, they will be the oldest devices that can run iOS 15.
iOS 15 Compatibility: List of iPhones
Those having models older than iPhone 7 will not be able to use the new operating system.
So, based on that the list of devices that can run iOS 15 would be:
- iPhone 12 Pro / 12
- iPhone SE 2020
- 11 Pro Max / 11 Pro / 11
- XR / XS Max / XS / X
- 8 / 7 Plus
- 8 / 7
iOS 15 Compatibility: List of iPads
Though all is going as per the plan so far, if everything is fine by the release of the iOS 15, then the 6th generation smartphones will also support the new update.
As mentioned earlier, the iPhone 13 will have iOS 15 pre-installed. So keep that piggy bank ready for the purchase!
In addition to the phones listed above, the new operating system will be supported by a bunch of iPads and iPadOS.
The list of the same includes:
- iPad Pro 12.9 ″
- iPad Pro 10.5 ″/ 9.7 ″/ 11 ″
- Air 3
- iPad 5/6/7
- Mini 5
This is something new for the Apple users ( in addition to the features that are going to come hand-tied with the new update). Till 2020, iPadOS and iOS parted ways. However, with the launch of the iOS 15, the operating system will be made available on some iPads as well. In addition to all the ones mentioned above iPad Air 2 released in 2014 will be compatible with the new OS launching in 2021.
Unlike the phones, the hardware of the Apple tablets is quite improved. Thus it’s not surprising that six-year-old iPads will be compatible with the new operating system.
But there can be stances when your phone or iPad might not be compatible with the new iOS 15. This might happen if the company itself drops off some devices from the list if it feels that the older devices are not compatible with the new version of iOS.
Since the outdated hardware of these devices cannot meet the requirements of the new technology, the company itself leaves such devices out. There is nothing you can do about it.
The chances of this situation occurring are quite strong since Apple keeps on upgrading its technology. For instance, it started using Neural Engine for machine learning tasks. Thus the older devices that don’t have a chip installed will not be able to make use of this new technology.
So, gear up! Make sure you have the upgraded version of the iPhone if you are excited to try out the iOS 15.
